Sambalpur: Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) Students has again protest over semester fees. On Tuesday, students locked the 2 main gates of the university to protest against the increase in fees. The complaints of the students are that in other universities, as much money is being taken for all subject as in GMU, Rs. 200 has been taken for each subject and Rs.250 has been taken for each subject of self-financing. The students protested on Tuesday as they were given notice to fill up the form without decreasing the said fee. On Wednesday, Situation calmed down after the university authorities promised to discuss the matter with the students.
According to the information, the protest started after the university issued a notice to collect Rs 200 for each subject between December 7 and December 9 after the notice for filling the first, third and fifth semester forms of GMU was issued. For the students on December 6th, since the chancellor was not present, the vice-chancellor Dr. Umacharan Pati was given the claim letter. He said that a decision on the fee will be taken after discussion with the Chancellor, so the date of filling the form was moved to between December 13th and 15th. Since the fee was not reduced and the notice was given to fill the form, on Monday morning, the students first protested in the administrative building of the university, after locking the two main gates, the students sat in protest in front of it, as a result, the students, teachers and faculty members inside the university could not come out. Many students were left outside while classes continued inside. On the direction of the chancellor, a committee of 12 members of the university has been formed to review the fees and submit a report to the chancellor by Wednesday afternoon. We can be present at the review committee meeting to be held at 12 o’clock. After the report of the review committee, the final decision will be taken on whether the fee will remain the same or decrease said Dr. Umacharan Pati.
