Sambalpur: GMU Rally; Integrated B.Ed. Students Urge Central Institutions to Acknowledge Their Qualifications

Sambalpur: Integrated B.Ed. graduates of Sambalpur GM University are not happy with the employment rejections they receive in spite of having valid certifications. The graduates complain that Central Schools, Jawaharlal Nehru Navodaya Schools, and Eklavya Model Residential Schools are not accepting their NCET-accredited educational credentials as proof of qualifications for hiring teachers. With banners and posters in hand, Sambalpur GM University students protested against the Union Education Minister by taking to the streets and marching to the BJP office. Through the District Collector, they sent a demand letter to the State Education Department and the Secretary of the Central Education Department.
Ahead of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s visit to Sambalpur, students raised slogans against him, highlighting their frustration with the lack of recognition for their qualifications. Students protested outside the BJP office in Sambalpur district, voicing their concerns about applications for teacher recruitment being turned down when they had valid certifications. The students stressed that their self-financed four-year study at Sambalpur GM University, which began in 2016 and has 100 seats, is NCTE-approved. Despite paying a course fee of Rs 2 lakhs over four years, the graduates feel their certificates hold no value, leading to repeated complaints to the Union Education Minister without tangible results.
This issue is not limited to Sambalpur GM University, as students from Ravenshaw and FM University are facing similar challenges and have reported that they have constantly petitioned the Union Minister about this issue, but to no avail. As a result, students are sitting in front of GM University’s administrative department in the evening to solve this issue.
