Sambalpur: Golbazar Modernization Stalled; After 7 months of Opening, Not a Single Store has Opened
Sambalpur: Even after the first phase of the state-of-the-art Golbazaar was completed, modernization remains a fantasy. It has been 7 months since the completion of the first phase and the inauguration has also been completed. Additionally, around 40 shops in the market complex have been delivered. Up until today, not a single shop had opened. While there was a strong reaction from the general public, the complex area has now turned into an addict’s Area. If this complex becomes operational, the parking problem in the area will be resolved. Because the situation has not changed since the inauguration, intellectuals press SMC to take immediate action.
It is worth noting that Golbazaar is an important part of Sambalpur residents’ daily lives. This market was established in the heart of the city to benefit the people during Irish rule. Over time, Golbazaar has become the city’s main shopping center. A traffic problem has arisen as a result. A state-of-the-art market complex was planned for 2014-15 to address traffic and parking issues, as well as a recent fire incident at Golbazar. To make it a reality, after about 2 years, the construction of the modern market complex also started. However, due to various problems, its construction was repeatedly interrupted. Finally, in the first phase, around 40 shops have been built and inaugurated less than six months ago.
Following the completion of the first phase and the inauguration of the stores, the public expected the much-anticipated market complex to be functioning very soon. However, despite being open for 7 months, not a single shop has opened as of yet. The market complex, which cost crores of rupees, was likewise not successful. Even today, the Golbazaar area’s parking problem is causing unparalleled issues for both shops and the general public. There is also a question of whether the construction of the second phase of the building will start or not.
The problem was brought to the attention of the Metropolitan Corporation Ved Bhushan. After a few months, the newly built shops were handed over to the shopowners, along with the keys. However, while the shopkeepers have some problems, especially a transformer and the construction of a drain to remove water from the parking area constructed in the new building, he informed us that the work is still left.
