Sambalpur: Government Offices, Courts are shut down, Public support for the High Court bench movement is growing
Sambalpur: The Sambalpur District Bar’s Association has once again launched a movement demanding the establishment of a permanent bench of the High Court in Sambalpur. Today, many organizations in Sambalpur city have joined voluntarily. Not only that, they were seen picketing and preventing the judges and officers, employees from going to the office, court.
On behalf of the Central Action Committee of West Odisha Bar Associations, the state government has issued several demands for the establishment of a permanent bench of the High Court in Sambalpur. Time was also sought for a meeting with the Chief Minister in this regard. However, as the Chief Minister did not give time, the Central Action Committee went to the capital Bhubaneswar on September 28 and held a protest. However, during the lawyer’s agitation, a representative team of the Central Action Committee was called, three ministers and senior officials of the state government gave sweet promises during the discussion, but they did not send a complete proposal to the central government. Therefore, until the demand is achieved, the Sambalpur District Bar’s Association is going to the trial court on Wednesday every month and the office of the state government has decided to shut down.
As the court was closed last Wednesday, the members of the Bar Association decided to picket in front of all the government offices today. However, members of many organizations including social organization Sambal, badabazar Ekta Group Mahamaya Shop Owners Association, Fatak joined the movement today. Picketed in front of various offices. They stopped the judges from going to court by picketing at Mandela Street (Kacheri Street). Due to the agitation, all the government offices starting from the RDC, District Collector, Upazila Collector, Tehsil office were closed. However, banks, LIC, metropolitan corporations, schools and colleges, fuse call centers etc. were excluded from the movement by the action committee.
