Sambalpur: Harjit Hotel of Ashoka Takies Road fined for defrauding customers on Water Bottle
Sambalpur: The Harjit Hotel on Ashoka Takies Road in Sambalpur has been registered by the District Disputes Redressal Commission. The Commission has directed to pay Rs 40,000 to the complainant within a month. According to the complaint, Shashank Shekhar Majhi of Kacheri Road Binakhandi under Town Police Station went to Harjit Hotel to have dinner with his family on 24 September 2023. Ordered a liter bottle of water with various dishes.
After the meal, the bill given to him was Rs 790 for a water bottle and food. 830 rupees including 5 percent GST was mentioned in it. The retail price of the water bottle including all taxes is Rs 20 while the bill shows Rs 35. Not only this, additional GST has been added on Rs.35.
Based on Mr. Majhi’s complaint, the commission filed a case (CC/155/2023) on 30 September 2023. Today, the verdict of this case has been announced in 2024. Ordered to refund of the extra amount charged for bottled water with an interest. The consumer has been ordered to pay a total of Rs 40,000 within a month, including Rs 30,000 and legal costs of Rs 10,000, citing failure to provide proper service. In this exception, there is an order to pay 12 percent interest per annum. AK Mishra was handling the case on behalf of Mr. Majhi.
