Sambalpur: Heatwave Deepens Thirst for Animals and Residents in Sambalpur, Authorities Yet to Take Action
Sambalpur: The situation in Sambalpur is severe, with temperatures rising to 37 degrees Celsius. The heat has become unbearable, disturbing residents’ daily lives. The hot weather is not only affecting people but also causing animals like bulls, cattle, cats, dogs, and birds to struggle for water. Unfortunately, the administration and social organizations do have not the necessary facilities as in previous years. There are no drinking water facilities along the road, and no plans have been established to protect public health from the heat.
Furthermore, construction workers are having difficulties because their working hours stay unchanged without any supervision from the SMC (Sambalpur Municipal Corporation). Despite the discomfort caused by the heat, they continue to work from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. with owners and developers compelling them to work during these hours. The delay in implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) increases confusion and frustration among the workers.
Last year, efforts were made to solve water scarcity with projects such as Jalachhatra, although their effectiveness has been questioned. There have been reports of insufficient services from the agency in charge of managing water resources. Furthermore, projects like the Jalachhatra are facing operational issues, further aggravating the situation.
The administration must take quick action to alleviate the suffering caused by the heatwave. Repairing deteriorating water facilities, implementing SOPs for workers, and ensuring efficient management of water supplies are critical steps in mitigating the impact of the ongoing crisis. People are anxiously awaiting the administration’s response and hoping that steps will be taken quickly to address the challenges posed by the rising temperatures.
