Sambalpur: Heavy Rains Expose Flaws in District Hospital Build; Raises Safety Concerns
Sambalpur: Shocking revelations have emerged regarding the construction of the main district hospital in Sambalpur district, raising concerns over the safety and quality of healthcare infrastructure. The DHH, built at a staggering cost of 6.5 crore rupees with more than 4 crore spent on the shed, has become a symbol of mismanagement and irregularities in the construction process.
The recent severe rainstorm has revealed significant flaws in the construction, potentially risking the lives of patients and medical staff. Water from the poorly constructed shed flooded the hospital grounds, creating dangerous circumstances for everyone nearby. Disturbingly, numerous others, including hospital workers and a patient’s relative, narrowly avoided serious injury after falling under the leaking shed.
Allegations of poor quality have plagued the construction project since its inception, with objections going unheard. Despite numerous warnings and objections, the construction business failed to solve structural issues, resulting in the current situation. Even the officials, especially the supervising officer Vineet Kumar Lakra, appear unconcerned about the gravity of the situation, demonstrating a disturbing disregard for public safety.
In the face of such neglect, questions emerge about the accountability of the relevant authorities and the integrity of the construction process. It is critical that quick action be taken to address the systemic issues and hold those involved accountable for their actions. The Department of Health must conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that such quality and safety failures do not occur again in future construction projects. The public’s safety and well-being should always be a high priority, and any compromises in this regard must be avoided.
