Sambalpur: Hirakud Dam is rising, 2 sluice gates are open
Sambalpur: The full capacity of Hirakud reservoir is fixed at 630 feet. Another gate has been ordered to be opened at 8 pm on Thursday to release excess water. As a result water is being discharged to the river through 2 sluice gates of the left spillway. On the other hand, power generation from Burla Hydropower Station has continued at full capacity since Wednesday night after the repair of the conductor problem in the OPTCL feeder. All 7 units of Burla and 3 units of Chipilima are working, said Debasish Mishra, chief editor of Odisha HydroPower Corporation (OHPC).
So the dam authorities are releasing water to the power channel at full capacity as per requirement. At 9 pm on Thursday, the water level in Hirakud was stable at 630 feet. At that time, an average of 74,581 cusecs of water was entering the reservoir while the same amount of water was being discharged through various channels. 32,880 cusecs through two sluice gates, 36,772 cusecs through power channel, 3,955 cusecs through Bargarh main canal, 630 cusecs through Ghamman main canal, 108 cusecs through Sambalpur distributary, 236 cusecs of water for industrial establishments. In the last 24 hours, 14.13 mm of rain in the upper end and 1.13 mm in the lower end, according to the control room of Hirakud Dam.
