Sambalpur: Hirakud Displaced People’s Protest Day
Sambalpur: After 67 years of Hirakud river embankment, thousands displaced in this Yojana. Thousands of families have died without compensation. Generation after generation continues their struggle while the 10 decimal lands declared by the government is given to them not given. At that time, the process is being delayed by asking for scattered evidence and facts. Protest day was observed on Friday by protesting in front of the Sambalpur District Collector’s office on behalf of Hirakud Displaced Kalyan Samiti. Along with this, a claim letter was issued to the Prime Minister through the northern revenue department. The then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru declared the Hirakud riverbank on January 13, 1957. 26 thousand 501 Only 2243 families were rehabilitated when the families were affected. According to the official notification number 5533 dated 30.1.2002, the affected families should be provided with 10 decimils of land. It was later revised in 2004 and 2014. Since 2012, application for about 25 thousand displaced lands of Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundergarh and Bargarh districts. Out of a total of 1 lakh divided families, only 3000 families have been provided with land in Malpur, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh districts. Actions are not taken showing a lack of record while applying in various tehsils. Even after 20 years of the government’s notification, steps have been taken by the government, the displaced and affected people have expressed their anger. Keeping in view the situation of the people of the Hirakud submergence area, they have been neglected for 67 years. A single copy of the demand letter has been given to the District Collectors of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sundargarh Sambalpur, Sonpur, Raigarh, and Surgujar to the Principal Secretary, Home and Revenue Department, and the Northern Revenue Department.
