Sambalpur: HIV AIDS infection cases in Sambalpur district rise to 333 in a year
Sambalpur: The number of AIDS patients is increasing in spite of massive steps being taken to create awareness. AIDS has killed 465 people in Sambalpur district so far. However, in the last one year, 333 HIV positive people have been identified in the district.
The number of AIDS patients is increasing in the state. Odisha AIDS Control Society is providing necessary treatment and counseling to the people affected by the disease and providing them with necessary support after the blood test at the Integrated Counseling and Testing Center (ICT) in various parts of the state. In Sambalpur district, there are centers of ICT in Burla, Redhakhol, Kuchinda and Laida along with the district headquarter hospital.
From this, blood sample testing has been started at Sambalpur Centre. In the district from 2002 to 2022, 465 AIDS patients died in the last 20 years, while 3957 people were diagnosed with HIV infection. As of October 2013, a total of 3957 people were infected with HIV AIDS in the district and a total of 1582 people were infected with HIV in 465 districts, 1897 people in 2014, 2152 people in 2015 and 2371 people in 2016. By October 2017, this number had increased to 2616. However, in October 2021, a total of 3624 infected people were identified from these centers in Sambalpur district. 834 people from Sambalpur center, 2094 and 572 people in Burla medical center, 2094 and 572 people respectively, 110 people in Redhakhol center, 8 people in Kuchinda center and 6 people in Leyda center have been diagnosed with HIV.
91 patients were diagnosed at Sadar Hospital Center in Sambalpur, maximum 334 patients were diagnosed from one center (Department of Microbiology) of Burla VSS Medical College and 21 from another (Gynecology and Obstetrics Center), 15 from Rebachol Center, 4 from Kuchinda died. As of last year 2017, the number of deaths in Sambalpur district has been limited to 436, while in the last 5 years, 29 more people have died. HIV The government is providing free treatment and rice to the AIDS patients, allowance money in Madhubabu pension scheme and other benefits. But not all patients can get this facility. Many patients do not take advantage of these schemes for fear of public embarrassment and end up in dire straits. A departmental official said that many patients are not taking medicine due to fear of social sanctions.
