Sambalpur: A hole has been discovered at the head regulator of the Sambalpur and Hirakud distributaries of the Mahammadpur Canal, which connects to the Hirakud Dam. Immediate restoration is critical to preventing serious damage, according to local farmers who want for a permanent solution. Farmers are dissatisfied with temporary sand-filling solutions and want a more robust and permanent solution.
The chief engineer of the Hirakud Dam pledged constant monitoring around the clock and stated that repair work would begin soon. Currently, 119.11 cusecs of water flow from the Hirakud distributary Mahammadpur canal, which spans around 19 kilometers. Farmers have expressed worry over possible delays in repairs, claiming that authorities believe this location could interrupt the Hindalco company’s water supply while repairs are being performed.
