Sambalpur: IIM Sambalpur and Flipkart Signed a MoU, now Sambalpuri Garments Available on Flipkart

BURLA: Sambalpuri has opened the door to a large and extensive market for the artisans and weavers of textiles. IIM Sambalpur and Flipkart signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, opening up a new digital platform for local weavers. Sambalpuri Garments will now be available on leading e-commerce platforms of the country like Flipkart. Similarly, an MoU has been signed between IIM Sambalpur and SIDBI for enhancing the industrial skills of weavers and artisans. In this context, IIM Director Prof. Mahadev Jaiswal informed and said that even through IIM Sambalpur, those who make and sell Sambalpuri garments can get all the benefits of Flipkart.

Flipkart is contracted to collect the manufactured goods from the homes of the wearers, pack them properly and deliver them to the specified customers and bring them back where required. On behalf of Flipkart, Eastern Director Akash Mishra Q. Signed the agreement with Jaiswal and highlighted the company’s responsibilities. SIDBI Chief Editor Dr. Acharya informed about the role and responsibility of the government in this context. Two prominent weavers of the region Dr. Surendra Meher and Ramakrishna Meher took the stage to inform about the problems and needs of the weavers.

Sambalpur District Magistrate Ananya Das and Bargarh District Magistrate Monisha Banerjee were present and thanked Flipkart and IIM for this innovative effort. The speakers said that the aim of this effort is the long-term development of various small scale industrial zones in the state and the country, especially in Bargarh, Sambalpur and Subarbanpur districts. To further enrich this handicraft cluster by fueling the industrial culture, awakening the spirit of setting up professional enterprises among the second generation weavers and artisans, facilitating access of MSMEs to various support services for business facilitation, Speakers said that the aim and objective of the program is to make the supply chain more competitive and contribute to the sustainability of clusters and to develop selected clusters as examples.
