Sambalpur: IIM Sambalpur Host a Special Lecture Series on G20 Presidency Program
Sambalpur: IIM Sambalpur, one of the country’s top business schools, sponsored a particularly thought-provoking lecture on the G20 Presidency as part of the G20 University Connect Program, which was inspired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s innovative leadership. The goal of this effort is to promote global awareness and leadership potential in B-school students on global issues, as they will be the leaders of tomorrow. The G20 University Connect lecture series, spearheaded by RIS (Research and Innovation System), has already made a big impact by enlisting 65 universities from various states and union territories, actively engaging numerous students in the process.
The event started with an official film that introduced the overall topic of India’s G20 presidency in 2023. After that, the keynote speaker, Former Ambassador J.K. Tripathi, IFS (Retd.) Diplomat, Government of India, expounded on the significance of the G20 Presidency. He stated that with this platform, India can show the world the way forward in numerous areas, similar to how we pioneered the digital economy. Only about 50 countries in the world have access to a digital economy or payment system. In addition, we may share our experience with solar power, sustainable energy, and startups.
Mr Tripathi went on to say that as part of the G20 Summit, there were a lot of talks on trade practices and supply lines, supply chain, and supply chain, which resulted in a very sound execution of such issues. Not only that, but India has urged at various levels that the World Trade Organization (WTO) norms, rules, and regulations be changed in order to directly and especially support emerging markets and developing countries, as well as growing economies. The former Ambassador also shed light on the G20’s limited history, stating that it is the only international organization that comprises members of the G7, BRICS, and other major international organizations, allowing it to serve as a bridge between developed and developing countries.
Earlier, Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur, stressed the significance of the event in his welcome remarks. According to Prof. Jaiswal, India has become the world’s fifth-largest economy in terms of GDP and is currently the fastest-growing economy. According to the report, if the current growth rate continues, India will join the United States and China as one of the top three GDP countries in the world. According to the survey, female involvement in higher education in India is below 15%, and if it improves by another 20 points, India will have the third-largest GDP. The Indian economy will overtake the US economy if we improve the diversity index even more and place it in the top 40, as we have done with the innovation index. IIM Sambalpur has already taken the initiative to improve its gender diversity, Prof. Jaiswal said. The institute achieved the greatest female ratio among the best universities in India with a 60% gender-female rate in the most recent MBA cohort.
Mr Ali Syed, RIS, moderated the Q&A session, which was followed by a vote of gratitude from Prof. Padmavathy Dhillon, Faculty IIM Sambalpur. The event provided a forum for participatory conversation about the G20 presidency and its larger ramifications in terms of education, research, and other different global viewpoints. It should be noted that the program is the result of a collaboration between the Research and Innovation System for Developing Countries and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
