Sambalpur: Inhumanity of medical students crossed the line: clash during inter-college Fest at Vimsar, 9 medical students of Berhampur injured
BURLA: Medical students of Burla Vimsar crossed all limits of inhumanity today. Attacked Berhampur students instead of welcoming them by inviting them to the fest. Many students have breathing problems due to the use of fire extinguishing gas in the name of welcome. However, the incident will be taken seriously and will be reported to the police station tomorrow, said Prof. Barsha Tudu, acting director of Vimsar.
According to information, the inter-college competition ‘Euphoria’ is held regularly among MBBS students of Burla Vimsar, SCB Cuttack, and MKCG Berhampur. Once every 3 years a medical college gets the responsibility of organizing. This year Burla Vimsar was given the responsibility of organizing ‘Euphoria’. Preparations for this have been going on in Vimsar for the past few months, and there was controversy right from the start. Some of the junior students brought complaints against some of the seniors here, but it was resolved amicably. Today, however, all boundaries were crossed. 65 MBBS students from Berhampur left for Burla yesterday for the competition to be held from the 5th to the 10th of July. Various sports competitions will be held in Euphoria from 5th to 7th, while all preparations for the cultural program from 7th to 10th have been completed. At 9:30 in the morning, the MKCG students reached the old auditorium of Vimsar. Vimsar students were waiting to welcome them. As soon as they arrived, a dispute arose for some reason. When they did not get down from the bus, they used fire extinguishers and used gas on them. Some of the students became shortness of breath. Hundreds of Vimsar students attacked them in a union. Chair was also pelted with stones inside the bus. Some students were also seen holding sticks in their hands. Even though the Brahmapur students were less in number, they tried to reciprocate. In connection with the incident, the students from Brahampur informed some of the senior students over the phone. Later, they were rescued by the efforts of senior students. It is said on behalf of the students of Berhampur that about 9 were injured. A student with serious injuries has been admitted to the ICU.
While the Vimsar students’ union workers remained tight-lipped about the incident, the Vimsar authorities also tried to suppress the incident at the initial level. However, the Vimsar authorities have taken the incident seriously after the MKCG authorities reacted strongly after receiving the news. According to one of Vimsar’s students, we stood outside to receive them. The students inside the bus started making comments to Vimsar students which led to the conflict. It is alleged that they first released gas from the fire extinguisher inside the bus. On the contrary, as three fire extinguishers were used in the incident, it is said that this was done to welcome the students of Vimsar in a grand manner as per earlier plans.
In this regard, the acting director of Vimsar, Prof. Barsa Tudu said that the police station will be informed tomorrow. Efforts are always made to create stability in Vimsar. It is suspected that some outsiders are involved in this incident. An outcast with medical students may have created such a situation. However, till now, a detailed investigation of why such a situation has arisen and necessary action will be taken. All the children from Berhampur will go back on a bus tonight. A total of 5 students were injured and all are in good condition. BarsaTudu said that the critically injured student, who was admitted to the ICU, will return as his condition improves. MKCG Medical College Dean Prof. Satasi Kumar Mishra said, “Yesterday, there was a commotion when the students went there. Now the discussion is going on between the students of both the medical colleges.
