Sambalpur: Mandal jail staff is on hunger strike, ‘Strike will continue until demands are fulfilled’
Sambalpur: Sambalpur Mandal prison staff are on a peaceful hunger strike at the call of the Central Action Committee of Nikhil Odisha Jail Staff Union. In addition to carrying out their work, they took 5 points demand and staged a protest dressed in black badges. In the prisons, all the warders of Sambalpur Mandal jail, including the chief warders, and the female warders of Niketan women’s prison have been involved.
Their demands included an increase in the grade pay of warders from Rs 1900 to Rs 2,000, chief warders’ grade pay from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,400, food allowance from Rs 400 to Rs 1400, implementation of old promotion scheme and salary along with grade pay and DA.
President of Sambalpur Sub-Committee Mandal Jail of the Staff Union Premananda Das, Vice President Dilip Lakra, and Secretary Tolman Singh said that they had informed the government about 5 points of demands but the demands are not being met, so they wore black badges from the last 13th to till 24th and issued demand letter.
They informed that as the demands are not met, they will carry out the work as per the decision of the Central Action Committee and continue the peaceful protest.
