Sambalpur: ‘Mo Khata Yojana’ has been a way of additional income for the Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporations
Sambalpur: ‘Mo Khat Yojana’ has been a way of additional income for the SMC. Garbage collection has proven to be a source of revenue for metropolitan municipalities. Its proper management has not only increased the income but has also helped to control the pollution in the city to a large extent. Apart from this, this project also provides income to many women, the amount is distributed as additional payments to the staff employed in different areas of the city, from garbage collection to management.
The Metropolitan Corporation has planned to open 11 resource centers in the metropolitan area for the management of door-to-door waste collection in the city, while 9 centers are still available. The estimated cost of constructing each resource center is Rs. 79 lakhs. The resource center has one Micro Compost Plant (MCP) and Material Recovery Center (MRP) each. Two more such plants are under construction at Themra and Gujatal. It will be operational within the next few days, said the Metropolitan Corporation. Two types of waste are being managed in this medium. One handles wet waste and the other handles dry waste. However, both wet and dry waste collected from households are being managed separately in this project. Because if the dry waste is mixed with the wet material, it will not be usable anymore. The vehicles have two separate compartments for wet and dry waste. Along with this, everyone is being warned to dispose of wet and dry items separately in the garbage. As the recycling of waste acts as fuel, 62 battery-powered vehicles are employed to transport the collected waste to the resource center.
It is worth noting that waste collected from different parts of the city is being composted and distributed in the waste plant. SAGs are employed by the Metropolitan Corporation in Athens which can help in increasing the revenue along with environmental protection, about 100 tons of wet and dry waste is collected every day from different areas under the metropolitan corporation. A total of 45 tons of manure can be produced from each project at the rate of 5 per day,” said Shubhkankar Mohanty, head of the Metropolitan Corporation. According to him, two types of revenue can be collected from the collected waste. Fertilizer sales through SAG have also been opened, on the other hand, iron. About 16 types of materials such as tin plastic are being sold, therefore they have been removed from the metropolitan area. Then the wet bark material is kept in a separate tank in the center for 15 days and compost is prepared.
