Sambalpur: Modernization of the Golebazar market is progressing at a slow pace, Complaints of inferior substandard quality work
Sambalpur: The construction of the first phase of the modernization project of the century-old Sambalpur Golebazar is progressing at a slow pace. Although it was said by the Metropolitan Corporation that it will be completed by next month, doubts have arisen about it. Many shopkeepers will benefit from the completion of the construction of this very modern market building by the Metropolitan Corporation. It is departmental apathy that has pushed the construction of the project off schedule. It is also alleged that the construction work is of substandard quality. Giving information in this regard, Metropolitan Corporation Commissioner Pradeep Sahu said that in the first phase, a two-storey market is being constructed in addition to parking 4.5 crore rupees will be spent for this. The entire market project will be constructed in four phases. For this, the old Golebazar will have the form of a four-storied building. Wide roads, jetties and other ancillary facilities will be developed around the market. The construction work of the next 3 phases is also planned. Now there are 180 shops inside the Golebazar, while there are more than 200 stalls for selling food and other goods.
The Golbazaar, which is said to be the largest retail center for selling vegetables, groceries and other goods in the district, was built in 1903. It was named after King Edward VIII of Britain. Golbazar was built permanently in 1954 when Ratnakar Behera was the mayor. For the past 20 years, plans have been prepared for the industrialization of Golebazar, but they have not materialized. Therefore, there is a general demand to complete the pending projects immediately. Because some of the land of Golebazar is being used for this construction, there is displacement.
