Sambalpur: Negligence at Vimsar Hospital; Blood Sample Loss Delays Dialysis for Kidney Patient
Sambalpur: Another case of negligence has come to light at Vimsar Hospital in Burla, posing risks to the lives of severely ill patients. It is stated that officials at the RDC lost the kidney patient’s blood sample, delaying his dialysis treatment.
The patient in question is Rajkumar Mahakur, 48, of Dablang village in Subarnapur district. He suffered from chronic (kidney) disease and needed regular dialysis. On Friday, Mahakur was admitted to Vimsar for his dialysis treatment. The doctor encouraged him to have several blood tests before starting dialysis, as is standard procedure.
Mahakur provided his blood sample to the RDC for the needed tests. However, when he went to pick up the test results, he was informed that his blood sample was missing. RDC officials were unable to identify his sample, leading Mahakur to submit a new set of blood samples for testing. The whole matter delayed his much-needed dialysis treatment.
Unfortunately, this is not the case with blood samples and test report errors at the RDC. Several cases of RDC staff playing with patients’ lives through such negligence in this critical department have been reported earlier.
Vimsar authorities have been asked to look into the matter seriously and take appropriate disciplinary action to prevent similar mistakes from risking patients’ lives in the future.
