Alleged death of old man due to lack of provision of ICU

Burla: There have been reports of fatal suffocation cases in Vimsar, despite the provision of ICU beds to patients. Due to the lack of ICU beds, rare incidents such as the death of Jugal Kishore Nayak (90), Kuchinda occurred.

According to reports Jugal Nayak, the retired professor of Kutrachuan College and the father of the literary Subas Nayak fell down a few days ago due to a sprained leg. He was transported to the Kuchinda sub-district hospital. However, due to a brain hemorrhage, he was transferred to Vimsar on Tuesday. In critical condition, he was transferred to Vimsar Emergency Department and then to HDU. Because his health was critical, the doctor advised that he be taken to the ICU. Subas went to the ICU unit this morning and asked to be admitted. Two ICU beds were available. Subas was not provided an ICU bed despite repeated requests.

Another patient, on the other hand, was admitted to an empty bed at 9 a.m. Meanwhile, Jugal’s situation deteriorated. Jugal’s life was gone at 10 a.m. Subash stated that Jugal was not given an ICU bed, possibly due to they are not a celebrity. When asked the ICU chief about it, he said that due to a lack of staff, only 11 of the 20 ICU beds are currently operational. Two beds are set aside for surgical patients and patients in critical condition. However, new personnel will be hired soon, and at least 24 ICU beds will be made available in the new medicine ward. He stated that the Vimsar authorities are taking the necessary steps.

On August 20, the Vimsar authorities relocated the 20-bed Central ICU to the new Medicine Ward (Second Covid Hospital) for renovation. It was planned to use 50 ICU beds in the new medical ward to serve poor patients. But there is now an exception. The situation is deteriorating as only 11 ICUs of the new medicine ward are operational, despite a shortage of 20 ICUs. Poor patients are forced to wait in long lines for ICU beds. However, it is clear that critically ill patients are dying in the absence of an ICU bed who is financially secure receiving care at a private nursing home. Meanwhile, it is claimed that the ICU is only for leaders and VIPs.
