Sambalpur: “One who is sheltered by God cannot be killed by anyone”, Baby girl is thrown into a deep well, rescued after 6.5 hours
Rengali: All limits of cruelty and barbarity were crossed. A newborn baby girl was thrown into an abandoned deep well in the forest by some woman or other to kill her. Finally, the fire department and Odraf team rescued the baby girl alive after six and a half hours of hard work. The incident which took place in the Sriram Budha forest of Rengali block Laripali village, which is about 30 km away from Sambalpur district headquarters, has become a topic of discussion in the entire state today.
After the rescue, the already-prepared medical team immediately took her to Burla Vimsar in an ambulance for proper treatment. More importantly, a plastic bottle saved the child’s life. That is why the baby got stuck in the bottle which had already fallen inside the tube well. After it was found that the child was about 15 feet below, on the instructions of the Chief Minister, the victim’s location camera was brought by plane and used. At 8:30 in the night, the iron pipe cutting started. After it broke down, the child was rescued with the help of an electronic machine. The NDRF team was also involved in this operation at the last moment.

It is believed to be the first time that someone threw their unborn child into a deep tubewell with the intention of killing her. This forest, known as Sriram Buddha forest, is about one and a half kilometers away from Laripali village. Late Sriram Agarwal created this forest on his land. People have named the forest after him. Dasarath Behera of Laripali village, who went to graze goats at the place, heard the sound of a child crying from the abandoned tubewell at 11 o’clock. The incident came to light after he informed his relative brother and ward member of the village, Karunakar Raut after he found out that the child had fallen inside the well.
Sudarshan Panda, a Rengali police officer, first saw the scene and informed the administration. After that, the rescue operation started under the leadership of Rengali fire officer Sushant Dhal at 3 pm. First, the soil excavation was started through a JCB. Later, with the help of 2 more JCB machines, the soil around the tubewell was excavated to quickly rescue the child. The child was inside an 8-inch round iron pipe about 15 feet below the ground. A child was heard crying even during the digging of soil through the JCB. Oxygen was administered into the tube to keep the baby alive. An 11-member rescue team from Jharsuguda under the leadership of B.B. Thapa and firemen of JSW BPSL Company were also involved in the rescue operation. Additional District Magistrate Pradeep Sahu, Rengali Bidyo Krishnachandra Dalipathi, Tehsildar Lopamuda Samal, SDPO Pradeep Sahu were present at the spot and supervised the rescue operation. SP Mukesh Bhamu also reached the spot at 7:30 pm.
However, some women of the village said that they saw an unknown woman walking in the forest around 12:30 noon today. There is a rumor in the local area that someone may have done this to kill a virgin mother because of public shame or because of a quarrel between husband and wife. On the contrary, during the questioning of the aspirant of the village Soudamini Sahu, he said that no woman or young woman had given birth recently or there was no date of childbirth during this period. Therefore, any other person in the surrounding village who is well-informed about the said forest must have done so.
Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik expressed happiness
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed happiness after a newborn baby was rescued from an abandoned borewell in Sambalpur’s Rengali. She wished the baby a long and healthy life. The Chief Minister congratulated the rescue team, fire brigade, district police, medical team and praised their coordinated efforts. He said that the entire government system has worked based on the principle of ‘every life is precious’. The Chief Minister was monitoring the incident from the beginning. The chief minister’s office has informed that the equipment to be used in the rescue operation was sent by a special plane on his orders.
