Sambalpur: OSFC Penalized for Land Deal Issue; Ordered to Pay 1.05 Crore to Complainant
Sambalpur: The Sambalpur District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has punished the Odisha State Finance Corporation’s (OSFC) Sambalpur branch for alleged customer harassment. They have been instructed to compensate the complainant with a sum of 1 crore 5 lakh 50 thousand rupees within a month.
The case is around Binod Sabalaka, the complainant’s husband, who died on March 18, 2023. Before his death, the OSFC sold him 7.4 acres of land for 4 lakh 21 thousand rupees. However, due to the land’s uncultivated status, the registration could not proceed.
Ms. Manju Sabalaka filed a complaint with the commission on September 27, 2023. The complaint was filed as case 150/2023, and hearings began on February 12, 2024. The verdict was released on March 12, resulting in OSFC to pay the claimant Rs. 1 crore 5 lakh rupees in compensation within a month. Failure to settle the bill within this deadline will result in an annual interest charge of 4%.
Furthermore, OSFC has been directed to give Rs. 50 thousand to the district consumer welfare fund and set aside Rs. 20 lakh to compensate the complainant’s expenses.
