Sambalpur: Patients in the Medicine Ward of Vimsar, Burla are treated on the ground
Burla: It is alleged that the patients are being deprived of even the basic facilities while dreaming of turning the Vimsar into an utkarsh center. When critically ill patients from 10 other districts come Vimsar in the hope of free treatment, but they are facing many problems. Patients even placed directly on the floor from the bed, which is a punishment for seriously ill patients. This disorder situation related to Vimsar is greatly increasing the misery of poor patients. Vimsar’s medical department receives a large number of patients, but its number of beds is like a shell in the sea in comparison. Similarly, the situation in Gynecology and Obstetrics department is the same. Critically ill patients are kept in the floor without any proper system. No tangible steps are being taken to address this. Due to lack of beds, it is seen that the lives of critically ill patients are deteriorated. On the other hand, there is a chronic shortage of ICU beds in Vimsar, so the doctor’s advice to be taken to the ICU cannot be implemented.
While the old medical department has a capacity to accommodate a total of 300 patients, the new six-storey medical department can accommodate around 450 patients. However, due to some inconsistencies, even now beds are not available for all the patients who come to the medical department. About one and a half times more patients are come to Vimsar for treatment. As a result, due to lack of beds, patients are being treated on the ground. To overcome this situation, a new six-storey medical department building with beds was constructed. However, due to design bugs and lack of fire safety, many things remained unworkable. In between it was used as Covid Hospital.
Gynecology and Obstetrics is another great department of Vimsar. In this department too, the number of delivery and other patients is always high. 1.5 times the normal capacity of women are filled. As there are not enough beds here, they are also being treated on the ground. It is alleged that while the Vimsar Hospital is going through such a pathetic situation, the management system of the facility is not able to find its own solution. As a result, it appears that patients are being treated in an adverse environment. Vimsar is unable to provide basic facilities when patients are coming from neighboring states including western Odisha. There is a demand in the district administration and the government to take action.
