Sambalpur: Peaceful Holi Preparations; Committee Plans Security Measures and “Maduadhara Bus” Deployment
Sambalpur: To guarantee a peaceful Holi celebration, the District Collector’s office hosted a Peace and Coordination Committee meeting in the conference room. The conference, chaired by Additional District Magistrate Azambar Mohanty, covered a variety of topics related to the upcoming festival, with a focus on ensuring peace, security, and necessary services.
Discussions focused on maintaining security precautions, including police presence, to avoid events such as accidents and altercations, which are frequently fueled by alcohol use during Holi festivities. A particular focus was given to the deployment of the “Maduadhara bus”, which will roam in Sambalpur to address any public disruptions caused by alcohol consumption. Those found drunk in public places will be transported to the police station using this bus.
While there were suggestions for completely restricting the sale of liquor on Holi, it was decided to let the liquor department make the final decision, with a proposal to perhaps extend the restriction beyond just one day. To guarantee effective crowd management, security troops will be strategically deployed around prominent places such as Marwadipada Ghat, Burla Jhankarani Temple Ghat, and the Power Channel.
The panel also discussed the need to reduce the sale of impure Holi colors and strengthen traffic control measures during the festivities. However, due to the unavailability of traffic department staff, precise traffic arrangements were unable to be finalized.
Key attendees included ADMO Dr. Ashok Dash, Deputy Collector Aishwarya Puruseth, and representatives from various departments tasked with ensuring a harmonious and safe Holi celebration in Sambalpur.
