Sambalpur: Police Seize 960 Liters of Corex in Sahu Colony; Two Arrested in Illegal Operation
Sambalpur: In Sambalpur city, the illegal Corex (cough syrup) business has not stopped. Today again, the police arrested the gang while they were operating a Corex business in the afternoon. A car was being loaded to be transported. Before going to the destination, the police team raided them. 960 liters of Corex were seized from there. The 2 accused running it are Babi Kumar Mahat (19) of Balibandha and Niraj Kumar Sa (19) of Biharipada. Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Tofan Bag informed in a press conference that they have been arrested and prosecuted.
The code of conduct for the election has been implemented. A strict approach has been taken by the police to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections. For this, a ban has been imposed on the drug trade. For this, Sambalpur police and the excise department continue to search everywhere. A large number of seizures are also being made.
Today, a police team was patrolling with Sub-Inspector (SI) Thomas Kerketta from the town police station. They received information from special sources about the smuggling of cough syrup near the Ambedkar boating club. When they went there and checked, they found cough syrup in a car. 960 bottles of cough syrup in 8 cartons were seized from the car. The estimated value of which is Rs 2 lakh, the police informed. In addition, a mobile phone and 38 thousand rupees were seized from the accused. While this is routine work for the accused, they already have several criminal cases against them. However, this cough syrup was being smuggled from N Narasima of Sahu Colony. Narasima is absconding now.
In view of the elections, during Holi, cough syrup came to the city in huge quantities. After receiving the information about it, the Sadar police raided the area near Nildungri, and the town police seized 16 thousand 320 bottles of illegal cough syrup and arrested 33 people. The town police raided Sahu Colony and seized 5520 bottles in 23 full bags. In the meantime, they continue to operate. They are also sent to jail. After coming out of jail, they are starting their illegal business again.
In the month of March last year, Sahu Colony was evicted by the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation in the name of upgradation. As a result, it was said that the illegal trade in the city would be stopped. But because no improvement work was done there, the settlement was once again built. It is alleged that the Corex business has also grown in the area.
