Sambalpur: Police Triumph; 2 Arrested in Jewelry Shop Shooting and Robbery Spree

Sambalpur: In a shocking incident on the 16th, Sujit Swarnakar, owner of ‘New Payal Jewellers,’ was tragically shot during a robbery at his jewelry shop in the afternoon. 5 culprits attempted the heist, and when it went south, they shot the owner. As per recent development, the Sambalpur Police have successfully nabbed 2 members of the gang involved.

During a recent press conference, Sambalpur SP shared the news that two culprits, Sanjay Saha (45) of Bihar, who lives in Tangarpali, Dhanupali police station and Tikeshwar Sahu (51) from Ghunsar, Shakuntala police station Balangir who lives in Anugulia Pada, Ainthapali, have been arrested. This is a significant win for the police, as these arrests came with the recovery of guns, ammunition, money, bikes, and a substantial amount of stolen jewelry. What’s more, this gang is connected to 8 cases in Sambalpur and Bargarh districts.

The gang concentrated targeted gold shops and petrol pumps. Sanjay was mastermind behind organizing operations in Sambalpur, while Tikeshwar handled various supplies. With the arrests of these two people, the police recovered 3 guns, 7 bullets, 2 mobile phones, 2 unregistered bikes, 9 thousand rupees, and numerous gold items.

In addition to the unfortunate incident at ‘New Payal Jewellers’ in Dhanupali, the criminal gang has been involved in a series of robberies:

  • The heist began with a gunpoint robbery at Radhika Petrol Pump under Sason police station on the night of July 28 last year, when the gang violently stole Rs 1 lakh 10 thousand.
  • Just two days later, on the night of July 30, the same gang raided the Sadar police station’s Bariband petrol tank and stole Rs 1.37 lakh.
  • A week later, the gang assaulted the Arjun petrol pump and stole Rs 4 lakh 29 thousand and robbed Reliance petrol outlet for Rs 13 thousand 300.
  • On September 24, the gang returned for another theft, this time stealing jewelry worth more than 25 lakhs from Mandhata Baba Jewelry Shop in Maneshwar, which is under the jurisdiction of Sambalpur’s Sadar police station.
  • The illegal activity proceeded on August 18, where they stormed into Ramlal Jhunjhunwala’s home near Baripali police station and stole a mobile phone.

The arrests of Sanjay and Tikeshwar mark a significant achievement in solving multiple cases and bringing justice to the victims. The police are actively working to apprehend the remaining members of this criminal gang.
