Sambalpur: Rising Tensions; Owner Critical as Armed Robbers Target ‘New Payal Jewellers’
Sambalpur: In a terrorizing incident in Sambalpur, miscreants attempted to loot a jewelry shop, ‘New Payal Jewellers,’ firing shots and critically injuring owner Sujit Sonar around 2:30 pm. The assailants, arriving on a motorcycle, fled after the shootout, leaving it uncertain if any jewels were stolen. Sujit Sonar was rushed to Burla Medical Center. Police arrived at the scene and launched a manhunt for the criminals. The incident adds to a rising trend of criminal activities in Sambalpur, where law enforcement has faced challenges.
Contradicting earlier reports, the Additional SP revealed that there were 5 miscreants on 2 bikes, not 6, as initially stated. The clarification came after checking the CCTV footage. The suspects were reportedly identified during the investigation of their escape route through Chowdhury Street. On Friday afternoon, a dog squad and the scientific team arrived at the scene for further examination.
The shop had a CCTV system, but it was non-functional during the robbery attempt and shooting as the owner, the shop owner, had removed the CCTV DVR machine to install a gold weighing machine himself. Consequently, the incident couldn’t be captured on the CCTV cameras.
