Sambalpur: Roads without drains, main offices are waterlogged by light rain
Sambalpur: Unplanned road construction work was done last April in front of the area known as Sambalpur VIP area, the office of the District Collector of Northern Revenue Commissioner and the official residence of Northern Police Range IG etc. From the very beginning of this construction, the problem was raised by the ‘society’ (Samaja) that the construction of roads without drains would lead to drainage problems. However, none of the officials of the administration, immersed in the policy of development, had noticed this wrong construction. After the scorching heat of the monsoon period, there was a few moments -monsoon rain on Thursday night. But in a few minutes of rain, including in front of the office of the Northern Revenue Commissioner, since Thursday night, the light rainwater has not been drained from the area, and now the illusion of an artificial lake has been created. The public is complaining that due to the unplanned development work under construction in front of the district office and the RDC office, there is flood in the city.
According to the Supreme Court’s directives, the road cannot be constructed without the construction of the canal. But in Sambalpur this is openly violated and such developmental works are being carried out without any plan according to the developer’s policy, so artificial lakes and floods are forming in the city. On the other hand, when the RDC, Collector and other district officials are visiting every day, the fact that no one is taking action despite the repeated attention to the drains of the area, but they are ignoring after knowing it, is raising a big question. Residents of the city are complaining that an act is being done repeatedly to deliberately waste government funds and promote corruption in the development policy.
