Similar Incident After 5 Months
Police Inactive
Sambalpur: Coming in film style, robbers are targeting people. Before anyone can react, they loot and flee. A gang riding bikes has been snatching gold, money, and mobiles from people in Sambalpur city over the past few months. Police were inactive due to election-related duties. However, it appears the gang has become active again. Today, near Sahu Colony, just a short distance from Town Police Station, two miscreants snatched gold jewelry from a woman’s hand. The duo came on a bike, grabbed the jewelry, and fled. The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident after receiving a written complaint.

After looting the gold jewelry, the miscreants fled to Mudipada before anyone could react. Similar incidents have been reported in several police station areas across the city in recent days. However, there are allegations that the police are failing to monitor these activities. Sambalpur police have taken a proactive approach to catching thieves and robbers since the start of the new year.
To reduce criminal activity, help centers were set up at major intersections. CCTV cameras were also installed at major intersections. However, it is now claimed that robbers have created a method to evade the police. A similar incident happened near the Mudipada water tank intersection in January. A couple from Dhuchurapada was returning from a family gathering in Jharuapada. Around 4-5 PM, robbers snatched the woman’s chain. Despite five months since the incident, the police have yet to apprehend those who committed it. The police face a significant challenge in identifying and apprehending the robbers because they wear helmets.
