Sambalpur: Robbery from the residence of the District Council President
Sambalpur: The residence of the district council president, which is located not far from the town police station, has been robbed. Thieves have taken away valuables such as AC, fans and other electrical equipments attached to the residence of the district council president. Despite the fact that goods worth lakhs of rupees were stolen, it was reported to the police station late. According to information received, outgoing District Council President Radheshyam Barik stayed here for a few months even after his term was over. Some personal problems delayed his departure from the residence. After he left, the present chancellor Kumodini Naik did not live there as some minor repairs and paint work were left in the residence. Taking advantage of the fact that no one was living there, the items were stolen a few days later.
Even after it was known about the theft, the district council did not immediately report it to the police station. Many questions have been raised about this. When asked about this to Dilip Bala, the chief development officer of the district council, he said that the theft took place less than 3/4 days ago. This has been reported to the police station. After the former district council president left the residence, the current president asked to work on furniture. He would have been there after the furniture work was done. As the residence was vacant, no one was living there, the thieves took advantage of this and took away the belongings, Mr. Bala said.
