Sambalpur: Rs. 25,000 Fine on Goyal Printing Zone owner in Budharaja for non-returning Rs. 3
- The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the owner of a photocopy shop for Rs 3 extra.
Sambalpur: According to reports, Sambalpur’s senior journalist Prafulla Kumar Dash had gone to Goyal Printing Zone in Budharaja to photocopy a document on April 28, 2023. He had given Rs 5 and told the shopkeeper to return Rs 3 as the rate of photocopy was Rs 2 per copy.
As a result, it was alleged that the shopkeeper had an argument with Mr. Das and abused him for demanding a refund of Rs 3. He revealed that I donated 5 rupees to the beggar and returned 5 rupees to Mr. Das for repeatedly asking for money. By this Mr. Das was deeply humiliated and mentally stressed. Even the shopkeeper refused to give any receipt for it. In protest, Mr. Das approached the district camp court. During the consumer court hearing, no argument was submitted or any receipt was submitted by the shopkeeper at the appointed time.
The court stated that the shopkeeper was doing business in a dishonest way without giving any receipt or bill. The court has stated that they are exploiting the customers by charging more than the market price The consumer forum directed the photocopy shop owner to refund Rs 3 towards excess money received from the complainant and Rs 25,000 as compensation towards mental agony and harassment to the complainant within 30 days from the date of the order, failing which the amount will carry 9 percent interest per annum till realization to the complainant.
