Sambalpur: Sahu Colony Slum Dwellers Eviction Case, Demand Letter to Enforce Order of High Court
Sambalpur: A demand letter was issued today to District Collector Ananya Das to implement the High Court order for the settlement of the affected residents of Sambalpur Sahu Colony Slum Eviction. The High Court has ordered the Sambalpur district administration to consider the application within 3 months about the rehabilitation of the residents affected by the Sahu Colony slum eviction.
The residents of Sahu Colony under Ward No. 25, Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation were evicted without notice and settlement against this, Brundaban Das Azad, president of Akhil Odisha Jhopdipatti Maha Sangh Ekta, filed a public interest case in the High Court. Chief Justice D.S. Muralidhar and Justice G. Satpathy heard the case and ended the case by ordering that it was not a case of public interest and that the aggrieved person could file a case in the High Court. On Mr. Azad’s advice, 5 affected residents filed a case in the High Court. During the hearing of this case, Mr. Azad’s application for the settlement of the affected residents on April 28, 2023, was not considered, so he ordered it to be settled within 3 months according to the law. Many residents including Reshma Raut, Sushant Das, Kalpana Chauhan, Lily Singh, Namita Behera, and Balram Raut were present.
