Sambalpur: “Sambalpur Bandh” on 23rd due to the demand of separate state, protest against the High Court bench
Sambalpur: A 12-hour shutdown has been announced for Sambalpur on Wednesday, 23rd. The public and lawyers have been agitating for the establishment of a permanent bench of the High Court in Sambalpur for a long time. Instead of making a concrete proposal, the state government is adopting a policy of laziness. In protest, the Sambalpur Civil Action Committee has called a 12-hour shutdown on 23rd to demand the establishment of a separate state by separating Western Odisha from Odisha. On the said day, from 6 am to 6 pm, shops, offices, and vehicles have been called to be closed. However, essential services and traffic on national highways have been excluded from the closure. In the meeting held on Friday evening under the chairmanship of Arvind Mohapatra, the state government’s approach was severely criticized and all the parties involved in the conspiracy to prevent the establishment of a permanent bench of the High Court in Sambalpur were made. Advocates and public have been campaigning for the achievement of this demand for more than half a century. The committee expressed its outrage at the Supreme Court’s repressive comments on the movement to make it fruitful. It was expressed that there was full support of the people of the area towards the lawyer. The state government was also advised to install water meters in Sambalpur on an experimental basis and was called upon to protest against it. The meeting was attended by trade unions and workers of various organizations.
