Incident During Hospital Visit
Sambalpur: A four-year-old girl from Sinapali village in Sambalpur district got her foot stuck in a toilet pan at VIMSAR (Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research) while visiting the hospital for treatment. Her father, Manoj Khadia, had brought her to the hospital because she was unwell.
Accident in the Toilet
Later, the girl said she needed to use the toilet. So, her father took her to the toilet near the NRC (Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre) ward. After that, he stepped outside while she used the toilet. Unfortunately, while placing her foot on the toilet pan, her left leg slipped and got trapped inside the narrow opening. Though she tried to free herself, she couldn’t. She eventually began crying in pain.

Rescue by Firefighters
Her family rushed in and tried to pull her out but failed. Immediately, they informed the Vimsar fire unit. Officer Satyabrata Pradhan arrived with his team and started the rescue operation. After almost two hours of effort, they successfully freed the girl’s leg.
Injuries and Treatment
However, the child suffered deep injuries on her leg. As a result, doctors admitted her to Vimsar for treatment. This incident highlights a serious safety concern in the hospital’s infrastructure, especially in toilets used by children.
