Sambalpur: Samleswari Women’s Committee Movement Threat, Equal compensation to all Displaced families
Sambalpur: While the hearing is going to be held in the High Court on January 31, the district administration is hastily demolishing the abandoned houses. If the administration does not have time to wait for the court’s verdict: then all the families to be displaced in the Samlai scheme should be given equal compensation, demanded the Samleswari Women’s Samiti Ghunughtipada.
On Wednesday, a large number of scattered women went to the office of the District Collector and submitted their demand papers. In the demand letter, they stated that while we have accepted the Samlei scheme, we are facing dire straits as the administration has paid compensation, many of the houses in fortified new colonies cannot be completed due to financial constraints. Due to the very low cost of transportation and house rent given by the administration, now people are unable to pay the house rent, so the residents of Ghunughtipada were frustrated and approached the high court after repeatedly demanding equal compensation. They warned that the administration should resolve the issue by giving equal compensation to all the displaced families or else they will go to Bhubaneswar and go on an indefinite hunger strike. In the absence of the District Collector, Additional District Collector Umakanta Raj, Upazila Collector Prabhas Dansena and Land Acquisition Officer Aditya Panda discussed with them the consideration of increasing the compensation amount for the slum dwellers. They promised that a quick decision would be taken and the families excluded from the displaced list would be included.
