Sambalpur: Another massive cyber fraud has taken place in Sambalpur. Sanjeev Panda, a resident of Bareipali, Sambalpur, became a victim of this fraud after searching Jio Cinema’s customer care number on Google. The fraudster has withdrawn more than 5 lakh rupees from his account.
According to information, the first Twenty20 match between India and Australia was played on November 23 which was telecasted live on Jio Cinema. But Sanjeev’s Jio Cinema app did not open on the 23rd. On the night of 23rd November, Sanjeev searched for the number on Google to contact customer care due to Jio Cinema’s running problems. Contacted the number he got. After some time he received a call from an unknown number. He introduced herself as the customer care officer of Jio Cinemas. Sent Sanjeev a link on WhatsApp to resolve the issue. The man asked Sanjeev to click the link. On the page that opened after opening the link, Sanjeev filled in his name and mobile number. Then she asked to recharge Rs.10.
According to him, Sanjeev recharged Rs.10 after that Rs. 5 lakh and 20 thousand rupees were deducted from his account in 2 transactions on the 24th. After learning that he was a victim of fraud, Sanjeev lodged a written complaint with the Sambalpur Cyber Police Station on Wednesday night. The police have registered a case and started investigating the incident.
