Sambalpur: Scam Alert; Two Victims Duped of Rs 9 Lakh in Secondhand Car Fraud, Complaints Filed, Police Investigating
Sambalpur: Two people were scammed out of Rs 9 lakh when they bought an old car (secondhand). The fraudsters demanded Rs 6 lakh from one and Rs 3 lakh from another. Two women and a man convinced them to buy a car together. After taking the money, they did not appear again. The event was brought to light after two victims of fraud filed a written complaint at the Ainthapali police station on Saturday.
According to the information received, Usharani, the director of automobiles in Bhubaneswar, and her two associates approached Manohar Das of Daharipalli about selling a used car. A contract was struck to sell the said car for Rs 6 lakh. Manohar initially handed Usharani Rs 4 lakh via NEFT to purchase a car. Later, he gave another two lakh rupees in cash. Usharani refused to give him the car after receiving the money. Later, Manohar requested him to refund the money. The woman didn’t return the money or give him the car. Manohar, frustrated after being constantly asked for money, filed a formal complaint at the Ainthapali police station on Saturday. The police have filed a case and are investigating the event.
Devendra Nath of Budharaja Kalyannagar was likewise a victim of fraud in the same way. The same lady and her two others convinced him to buy the second-hand car as well. Usharani also agreed to sell the car for Rs 3 lakh. On December 3, Devendra provided Usharani a cash advance of Rs 1 lakh to purchase the car, according to the terms of the agreement. Later, he received an additional 2 lakh rupees via NEFT. The woman also did not return his money or provide him with the car. Frustrated, Devendra submitted a formal complaint at the Ainthapali police station on Saturday. The police have opened another file and are examining the situation.
