Sambalpur: Section 144 re-imposed in Sambalpur District Court: Number of arrests increased to 37

Samalpur: A day after the removal of Section 144 in court area of Sambalpur district, it has returned again. 144 has been imposed again due to the threat of law and order disruption. On the instructions of the district administration, Sadar Upazila Pal and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Prabhas Chandra Dansena issued Section 144 Prohibition within 2000 meters area of the court on Monday.

According to the order number – 87 68 Dt 18.12.2022, this ban came into effect from 8 am to 6 pm today. An order was issued to prevent crowding of people in this area and extensive police force was deployed by barricading. Section 144 was imposed in the area after 6 days and it was lifted on 18th as normalcy returned to the situation. Deployed police forces were also removed from the court area but today the situation rise again.

Today, the representatives of Bhubaneswar, Baleswar, Nilgiris, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Barpali District Attorney’s Association came to collect information about the riot that happened on 12th. As soon as the district administration received this information, it brought back section 144 this morning. Court and District Police Stations were again surrounded by barricades and a wide-scale surveillance was carried out in this regard. IG Dr Deepak Kumar said that the number of arrest has increased to 37 among them, there are 28 lawyers, 8 transgender and one general public.

The police formed two teams to arrest the people involved in the chaos. It is being sent through mobile location. Meanwhile, today the lawyer Manoranjan Panda has surrendered at the Town police station. The police have arrested him. He was sent to Jail because he was denied bail. Judges are coming to the court under security. Lawyers from other district has come to cooperating with court work.
