Sambalpur: Shortage of Negative Blood Group occurs at the Blood Bank of Burla Vimsar
Burla: For the past few days, the crisis of negative blood group is seen in the blood bank of Burla Vimsar, the health center of Western Odisha. Patients from 10 districts of West Odisha including neighboring states Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand are dependent on Vimsar, especially for accident victims, thalassemia and cancer patients who require urgent blood transfusion.
On Tuesday, A positive 46 units, B positive 171 units, and O positive 170 units, AB positive 31 units, while B negative, O negative and AB negative one unit each were available in the blood Bank. As a result, it has been suggested to arrange it on behalf of the blood bank, 80 units of blood per day are required in Vimsar, adding the units of component blood up to 120 units per day.
Patients with chronic thalassemia require regular blood transfusions. Thalassemia patients have to use 20-22 units of blood daily. In such cases, the current shortage of blood in the Vimsar blood bank has raised the risk of hampering the treatment of patients. On Monday, Sagarika Patra (21) of Boudh district was admitted to the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department and needed blood of A Negative Group.
The problem was arose because the blood of that group was not available in the blood bank. Shiva Prasad Samal, a student of Vssut, after getting this information, he brought a donor from Hirakud and helped the said patient. When asked about this, Debashish Mishra, public relations officer and lab technician of Burla Blood Bank, said that there is required amount of positive blood group is being present in the blood bank, but there is a shortage of negative group blood.
Mr. Mishra suggest that patients can benefit if organizations organizing blood donation camps, stay in touch with negative blood group donors or if blood donors of this category voluntarily give their mobile numbers on social media.
