Sambalpur: Shriram Insurance Company Penalized in Consumer Court in Sambalpur
Sambalpur: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (Consumer Court) has penalized Shriram General Insurance Company Limited. Manoranjan Pradhan, a resident of A. Katapali village under Burla police station, purchased an old Hyundai car on September 13, 2022. He was advised to transfer the insurance policy taken by the previous owner under his name with Shriram General Insurance Company. Manoranjan paid the required ₹5,689 to the company’s agent for the policy transfer. Despite repeated visits to the company’s office, the policy was not transferred to his name.
Consequently, Manoranjan had to bear a repair cost of ₹80,000 from his pocket after a road accident. Seeking justice, he approached the Consumer Court. The court, after reviewing the case, ordered Shriram General Insurance Company Limited to compensate ₹80,000 for car repairs, ₹35,000 for financial loss, and ₹10,000 for mental harassment, all to be paid to the complainant within 30 days. The case was handled by lawyer B. Dash and associates on behalf of the complainant.
