Sambalpur: SMC Introduces ‘Jalasathi’ Volunteers to Alleviate Drinking Water Problems
Sambalpur: The city of Sambalpur, despite being located on the banks of the Mahanadi River, has been continuously dealing with the drinking water crisis. The problem becomes worse during hot and sunny days, which raises dissatisfaction among people. This year, too, there have been many issues with the drinking water supply system, causing crises in various parts of the city.
To address this issue, a meeting was called under the chairmanship of Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Vedbhushan. During this discussion, it was decided to deploy ‘Jalasathi’ (water volunteers) at the ward level to work towards the rapid resolution of drinking water-related issues.
Strategies for addressing shortcomings in the existing drinking water supply system were thoroughly discussed. The implementation of a grievance redressal system at the ward level was a significant step to ensure timely action on water-related issues. This conference included core officers as well as Jalasathi.
Jalasathi has been directed to closely monitor the deployment of water tanks in areas facing water scarcity. Department officials have been directed to address any incoming complaint within 24 hours of registration To facilitate this process, a control room has been established to oversee and coordinate these efforts.
Jalsathi and Control Room work together to connect authorities and the public, ensuring that concerns are resolved efficiently. Jalsathi’s phone number has been extensively distributed, and posters with this information have been placed in all wards of the city. Residents are recommended to contact water bodies directly if they have drinking water issues.
The administration hopes that by working together, it will be able to overcome Sambalpur’s chronic drinking water problems and give its citizens an appropriate and efficient water supply.
