Sambalpur: SMC Takes Action Against Illegal Parking; Tow Vehicles Deployed to Ease Traffic Chaos
Sambalpur: Illegal roadside parking has been a serious issue in Sambalpur, causing roadways to narrow and resulting in regular traffic problems. Due to the lack of proper parking facilities, people are forced to park their vehicles along the roadside, making the situation worse. This has forced the Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation (SMC) to take strict action. Municipal Commissioner Vedbhushan announced that starting March 27th, special tow vans will be sent out to pick up illegally parked cars.
Illegal parking is a major issue in Sambalpur, causing all roads to narrow. People are forced to park their automobiles by the side of the road since there are no suitable parking facilities, especially when the city has a boom in visitors during important events. As a result, the large highways become congested, causing regular traffic jams. Ambulances frequently become stranded in these jams, creating delays in emergency services.
The situation deteriorates on the service roads between Ainthapali Chowk to Remed, where multiple garages see frequent unlawful parking. Illegal parking causes accidents, claiming lives, and endangers road safety. Even on Mahanadi Ring Road, unlawful parking is generating problems, especially for bus services like the newly introduced Mo Bus.
Furthermore, insufficient parking near the overbridge forces vehicles to park indiscriminately, narrowing the route and causing inconvenience to commuters. Complaints have also been filed regarding cars parked on public streets with no respect for traffic flow, making it impossible for others to navigate.
In response to these issues, SMC has implemented aggressive steps to address illegal parking. The deployment of tow trucks is intended to discourage this conduct and ease traffic congestion, resulting in easier mobility for both commuters and emergency vehicles.
