Sambalpur: SMC’s raid on banned polythene trade; A fine of 25 thousand rupees was imposed on 8 shopkeepers
Sambalpur: Polythene and plastic are adversely affecting the environment. Keeping this in view, the state government has decided that all cities of the state will be freed from polythene, and plastic less than 50 microns in width has been completely banned. From October 2, 2018, restrictions on polythene were imposed in 5 metropolitan corporations (Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Brahmapur, Sambalpur). Any person, knowingly or through any person himself or by any other person, deals in, manufactures, imports, transports, uses, or sells lithium.
Small water bottles, thermocols, decorative thermocols, plantain spoons, cups, plates, glasses, plates, water pouches etc. have been banned. However, in Sambalpur city, many businessmen are still using plastic waste after repeated complaints. Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation (SMC) has also expressed concern. The department of SMC is charging fines by confiscating plastic polythene in various places. On Wednesday, the SMC conducted a raid on banned single-use plastic items. SMC and pollution department officials jointly raided Sambalpur’s Pirbaba Street, Nayapada, Golebazar, and Gobindtola areas and fined 8 shops. These 8 shopkeepers have been fined 25 thousand rupees, it has been said on behalf of SMC Fund. Banned plastic and polythene have also been seized. According to the information received from SMC, a fine of Rs 52,400 has been imposed in the last three months.
