Sambalpur: Social Security Scheme is for whom?
- The Disability Support Service Officer did not Support
- Burla police showed greatness
Sambalpur: The Disability Assistance Service Office helps people with disabilities in society, but in Sambalpur, this office seems to exist only in name. When a mentally ill and mentally challenged person was encountered in Burla, the Burla Police along with some young volunteers asked for the help of DSSO. The Disability Support Office failed to provide support. No help even after repeated contact. A young man from Uttar Pradesh was seen in Burla. The young man is mentally ill and unable to speak. So he wandered outside. He is completely disabled. He cannot speak but he needs help. A number of volunteers contacted the Disability Assistance Service Office with the help of the Burla Police for assistance. But after repeated calls, the DSSO officer failed to repond.
Finally, the Burla Police Station showed their greatness and arranged for the young man to be temporarily kept at a Shelter in Burla. Burla police chief Anil Pradhan has informed. Such actions of DSSO officers are widely condemned. Social workers and intellectuals have expressed displeasure over this. They demanded that the district administration look into it. A person directly questioned the DSSO officer as to who, if any, the Disability Support Services Office is for. It was revealed that the helpless youth was rescued from Burla police station area. Burla Police has attended CWC for his proper treatment. The next day, the CWC said he was a mature youth and returned him to the police station. Even though the police had approached the DSSO authorities to keep the youth overnight, no help was received.
