Sambalpur: Station road has been partially opened, contract agency is pouring soil on the concrete floor of the canal
Sambalpur: The road has been partially reopened after the construction of a pole on the Dhobijor canal near Big Bazaar on Modipada Khetrajpur station road. The residents of the city, who have been facing many problems for many months, are a little relieved with the opening of this road. But the construction of this pole is not complete. On one side of the pole, a concrete pillar has already been constructed by the Irrigation Department. A guard wall has been constructed on both sides of the canal and a concrete slab below. But nothing else worked. Therefore, for the protection of the pole, there is a need to construct a guard wall a few meters apart on both sides.
The construction company is digging the ground for the construction of this guard wall. But surprisingly, the soil is being dumped elsewhere on the concrete floor of the canal on the other side. A thick layer of silt has settled on the canal floor due to heavy dumping of soil overnight, creating a dam and water flowing through both sides of it. When there is too much water, the said soil will be washed away on the concrete floor and the restoration work done at the cost of crores of rupees will be worthless. It is alleged that the construction company is not paying attention to this despite the opposition of some conscious people in the local area. In this connection, when asked the Executive Engineer Sambit Naik, he said that it is not reasonable to dump soil on the canal floor. As soon as he received the complaint today, he said that he reprimanded the developer and ordered to remove the soil and clean the canal floor within a day. Similarly, Pramod Panda, inspector of irrigation department, said that he will discuss with the department officials and take steps in this regard.
