Sambalpur: Stone pelting at rally for Hanuman Jayanti; 10 police personnel including 2 police officers injured, 144 section imposed
Sambalpur: Stones were pelted while a bike rally was going from Dhanupali Street in Sambalpur for Hanuman Jayanti. Stones were pelted on the people and the police during the rally this evening. About 10 police personnel including 2 police officers who were deployed for the rally were injured. Agitated people set fire to shops and smashed cars and bikes. Section 144 has been imposed by the administration.
However, since 7 pm on Wednesday, section 144 has been issued by the administration in the riot-prone areas of Sambalpur city. This will remain in force till further orders. Sambalpur Sub-collector & Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pravesh Chandra Dandasana has issued the instructions to the police force. Mr. Dandasana said, “Currently, there is tension in the town, Dhanupali, Khetrajpur, Ainthapali, Bareipali, Sadar PS areas.” Therefore, more than two people cannot congregate in these areas.
