Sambalpur: Strict Action against 4 final year vssut students

Burla: The Burla Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) authorities have taken a strict approach in the incident of an attack on a student during a football match. After receiving the report of the disciplinary committee, action has been taken against the 4 final year students involved in the incident. Last Saturday late night, Sandeep Singh, a student of electrical engineering department living in Pulah hostel, was accused of being fatally attacked by 5 students from other departments. Sandeep was admitted to Vimsar in a critical condition while the attack took place over a football match. The Disciplinary Committee today submitted its report to Vice-Chancellor Bansidhar Majhi after holding discussions with both sides.

According to the Disciplinary Committee report, against 4 of the 5 students whom Sandeep filed the complaint were found to be involved. Evidence could not be found against one student. 2 students who are directly involved have been expelled from the university and hostel premises for one year and fined 25 thousand rupees. They are Pratyush Ranjan Mohanty, a final year IT student and Tushar Das. Their semester exam registrations scheduled to be held between January and April have also been cancelled. It has been ordered to deposit the fine amount of 25 thousand rupees in the development fund of the dormitory by the next 20th. Abhijit Samal of the IT Department and Mrutyunjaya Sahu of the MSc Physics Department, who were indirectly involved in the incident, were fined only Rs 25,000 and ordered to deposit it in the hostel development fund by the next 20th. If the fine is not paid within the stipulated time, they will not be able to appear in the next semester’s examination. The order clarified that their registration will also be cancelled. Also, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Majhi has expressed his displeasure over the fact that Vssut students have been ragged despite repeated strict actions.
