On Monday, a female student was eve-teased by outsiders on campus
BURLA: Students of Sambalpur University started protesting today after some outsider non-students allegedly misbehaved with a female student yesterday evening. The students protested and demanded action. Yesterday, a student of Narmada hostel went to eat Gupchup at a stall near Market Campus when some outsider students came and misbehaved with her. The student went to the hostel and informed her classmates about the incident. In protest, hundreds of students locked the new administrative building of the university today at 10 o’clock and protested. No staff even the chancellor, PG council chairperson and chancellor were allowed inside the administrative building. Later, the students came up with ideas. “For her safety, the students have made various demands such as installing CCTV cameras everywhere in the university premises, increasing police patrolling, and having only two entrance and exit gates to enter the university premises, besides closing all the entrances.
- Students locked the administrative building for 4 hours
- Suspect outsiders detained, police questioning
In this regard, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mishra asked, “For the safety of the students, some more lights should be installed on the road and the other roads leading to the campus should be closed and police patrolling should be increased. The student has also filed a written complaint at the police station. After the complaint, the police detained 3 suspects at the police station and interrogated them. Importantly, the students feel unsafe even though there is a police station just 200 meters away from the market complex. So what is the purpose of the Police phandi on the university campus?
