Sambalpur: The Mahanadi Utsav will last for 7 days from today
The Mahanadi Utsav will be celebrated for the first time since Wednesday. The festival will be celebrated in Sambalpur on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of independence. It will last for 7 days The main purpose of the festival is to keep the river afloat and to preserve its ecosystem. A preparatory meeting was held at the Sambalpur district commissioner’s conference room on Tuesday to discuss the Mahanadi Utsav. The meeting, chaired by Pradeep Kumar Sahu of the Metropolitan Corporation Commission, was attended by all the officials, voluntary organizations and discussed the celebration of the Mahanadi Utsav.
The Mahanadi Utsav will continue until the 23rd. There is a mass cleaning program from Wednesday to Friday. The river basin will be cleared from Chaur Pur to Samaleswari Temple. Shubhkar Mohanty, Nodal Officer, SMC Enforcement Officer, will be in charge. There are also boat racing and river rides on the river on Saturday. District Sports Officer Upendra Shatapathi and Culture Officer have been made the nodal officers for the event. On Sunday, there will be sapling planting, a local tree demonstration, a Diamond Zero Point and a clean-up in both the Dike areas. The Mahanadi festival will end on the 20th with yoga, pranayama storytelling, drawing, prabhatferi on the 21st, mini marathon, the Hirakud Jawahar Udyan on the 22nd, cleaning and other cultural activities on the 23rd.
