Sambalpur: The problem is increasing with the opening of Hirakud Gate, Hirakud Colony was submerged
As flood water flows through 26 gates, the water level is increasing. On the other hand, due to the fear of water seeping into the city, the drainage system of the city has been blocked. Pumps are being installed at various places to drain the water. Despite the light rain on Sunday, several areas remained submerged due to the closure of drainage channels from the city. Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation (SMC) has evacuated people in 7 places while the settlement at Hirakud Colony is completely submerged. However, stories of sadness and despair are coming to light in the shelters where people have been resettled. Where no one is fed properly, the condition of toilets is appalling. And who is worried about the things that have sunk in their house.
250 grams of chuda for 4 people !!
People have been sheltered in total 7 places by SMC including flood shelters and various welfare pavilions. However, it has been alleged that food items are not being served properly in these places. 250 to 300 grams of chuda has been given to 4 members of a family for breakfast. It is not possible for 4 people to eat. However, the people who have been rehabilitated said that the meal is being provided properly. Some people who are being served breakfast have complained. Due to which many complained that they did not get breakfast properly on Sunday morning.
No information was given by the district administration or the SMC about the closure of the drain at Binakhandi. People came to know about it after the water seeped into the house. By that time, the water will recede. By the time they thought about what to take out, what would be lost if left, the water was 4 feet inside the house. Because of which people left their homes to save their lives. Everything from children’s school supplies to food items has been submerged. A lot of damage has been caused due to lack of early warning. People have demanded that the administration should make a compensation arrangement.
Toilet condition is deplorable
The condition of toilets in Binakhandi flood shelter is deplorable. People are forced to use it. There is not even a bit of bleaching powder in the toilets. Because of the small children, people living in fear of infection have spread up and demanded bleaching arrangements. A big tree in Kacheri Street was uprooted in the torrential rain. On receiving information, the fire brigade reached the spot and removed the tree from the house. Floodwaters also gushed over the Malati Jor Pole on Sunday. Due to which the traffic on the Sambalpur-Sonepur road was not normal even on Sunday.
