Sambalpur: A group named ‘Sambalpur’ has been opened on the popular social media Facebook. In 2010, about 13 years ago, Sambalpur group was opened with only 2 people as members. Then, in this group there were mainly posts related to Sambalpur’s various problems, language, culture etc. In view of the positive feedback, its popularity gradually increased and the number of members reached 2 lakh 25 thousand. Apart from Sambalpur, Western Odisha, Odisha people and even people living abroad were also its members. However, the police summoned one of the three admins of the group to the police station today for making a communal inquiry against a member on a post. From 10 am till 3 pm, police interrogated the person. Not only that, The popular “Sambalpur” group has been shut down permanently from today, after pressure was applied to shut it down permanently as it was not possible to monitor so many people. In view of the stone-pelting and subsequent violence at the Hanuman Jayanti procession, the police administration kept a vigilant watch on social media. A special cell has been opened for this. Undertaking is being written with Group admin called to police station for questioning insensitive posting on social media. On the other hand, the police have registered a case against the person who made the objectionable communal remarks and started investigating the incident.
